About the Tana Umaga Foundation

Tana Umaga Fundation

The Launch

The Tana Umaga Foundation (TUF) was launched at a star studded event in Wellington’s Westpac Stadium in 2008.

At the inaugural fund raising dinner Tana also launched his book.  He also took the opportunity to auction memorabilia from his extensive collection with proceeds going to TUF.

The dinner was attended by many of New Zealand’s top sporting icons including All Blacks past and present and featured interviews with Tana, All Black legends Sir Colin Meads and Christian Cullen.

Tana was really pleased with the response and thanked the guests “it was a fantastic night and I really appreciate the generosity and support from so many as without them the Foundation will not be a success”.

Global rugby icon and former All Black Captain, Tana Umaga, established TUF to set up a fund to assist with education and opportunities for talented individuals who may struggle financially to attain their potential.  Tana remains immensely aware of the opportunities he has been given, the hard work needed and the support required to get the most from them.  TUF also enables Tana to give back to the region and the nation that supported him throughout his career and continues to do so.

The Foundation

TUF was established to support talent and reward hard work.  The objectives of the Deed are:

1. To encourage and assist promising New Zealanders, with a focus on young people who are hardworking and who might not otherwise have the opportunity, to achieve and excel in their education and achieve their potential.

2. To establish a scholarship to be awarded to a student or students who have attended Wainuiomata High School.

3. To undertake such other activities and provide such other assistance whether by way of financial assistance, scholarships or otherwise as the Trustees see fit of a charitable nature for the benefit of New Zealanders.
